Reggie Norton was born in 1933 in Gibraltar. His father, Henry J Norton, was Assistant Colonial Secretary and Principle Political Advisor to the war time governors. Reggie Norton recalls visiting the family farm in La Linea and speaks about his father riding with the Spanish when he was a young man and making friends and connections who were very useful when he became Colonial Secretary. He speaks about his father’s life and work – one of his father’s roles was as a courier to the British Embassy in Madrid, conveying confidential messages to the Ambassador. Henry Norton’s knowledge of Spanish Politics and personalities were valuable assets to the British and brought him to the attention of the SOE during WWII. Reggie Norton trained as a lawyer and was Town Clerk of Gibraltar in the 1960s.
