Magda Risso was born in Gibraltar. During WWII the family were evacuated to Tangiers and Casablanca where they had relatives; Magda Risso developed a lasting connection with Morocco and provides an interesting insight of life in Casablanca at that time. After the war the family returned to Gibraltar and she went to school for the first time to the Loretta convent; She then went to work for various companies including Nestle. This was unusual as the majority of Gibraltarian women did not go out to work. She discusses the changes in society after the war, the effect the war had on Gibraltarian women, giving them independence for the first time. She speaks about Gibraltarian culture, politics and national identity. She married Victor and when their son was born the family settled in the UK.
