Paul Baker was born in Gibraltar in 1932. He was evacuated to London during the war and recalls the dreadful conditions on the ship to England. Paul Baker’s family went to live in Wales and returned to Gibraltar at the end of the War. He recalls the scenes at the dockyard when the evacuees returned home; the shortage of housing. He was working at the dockyard at the time of the Bedenham explosion, which he describes in detail. He also speaks about post-war Gibraltar, the relationship between Gibraltarians and the military; Gibraltarian identity and culture.
