Roy Cuttenden was born in Brighton in 1925. He trained as a civil engineer and worked for the Admiralty. In 1958 he came to Gibraltar to oversee his design of the NATO Underground Oil Depot. It took three years to build and was the biggest underground oil depot in the world. From 1966-1968 Mr Cruttenden worked on the NATO underground Communication Centre (Comms Centre) which he also designed. He speaks with authority about the logistics and construction of these underground centres. He also speaks about his family life in Gibraltar, his house in Rosia Parade, and his career as an international athlete competing as a long jumper in both Commonwealth and Olympic Games.
